My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is based on my own life experiences and influences from my communities, family, and friends. I could never have felt like I could accomplish the impossible without the support of others. I could never overcome a challenge, express myself, and continue to grow without a group of peers whom I could rely on. I want to provide a space and an environment for students where they can feel and do the same. I hope to have students grow not only academically, but grow as friends, leaders, and as a community with each other.

Students should have the opportunity to show their strengths, learn from their mistakes, and work with others. Inclusivity is everything to me. I can’t have any student feel as if they are not fit, left behind, or not welcomed. Every student in my classroom should feel safe and comfortable every day and be treated with kindness and respect. I want my students to know they can accomplish anything they put their minds to for the present and the future. Every student is unique in their own way and has their own unique learning styles that are more suitable for them. I highly encourage diversity in both my way of teaching and students’ way of learning and it is my role to be accepting of all students and their learning styles.

I encourage students to share and learn from each other’s experiences. We come from so many different backgrounds, cultures, and communities that are so very different. I believe students are very good at applying previous knowledge to acquire new and meaningful knowledge that can be accessible, applicable, and practical to their own lives. I’m passionate to teach students to think critically and thoughtfully in order to do so.
